NEW! “The Tarpon Tour”: Tarpon Cay Lodge + Isla Del Sabalo Lodge (Island of Tarpon Lodge)
Keith’s notes about “ISLA DEL SABALO LODGE”: We are very excited to introduce our newest Yucatan destination – Isla Del Sabalo Lodge (Tarpon Island Lodge), located in a very remote region of northwestern Yucatan. This destination sits amidst the newest frontier in baby Tarpon fishing. Isla Del Sabalo Lodge is the first to establish an operation in this very secluded area of the Yucatan. The fishery is pristine and untapped. It consists of gin-clear turtlegrass flats, and mangrove-lined lagoons, channels, and rivers. Fly anglers can fish to both rolling and cruising Tarpon (very unique, but also more challenging), as the light colored mud bottom allows anglers to spot the fish swimming across the flats. The baby Tarpon here have been landed in sizes ranging from 5 to 25 pounds – perfect 8/9 weight rod fish. This is an all floating line game with small Tarpon flies mimicking baitfish or shrimp. All fishing is conducted out of stealthy 18’ panga flats boats – guides utilize poling tactics to quietly pursue and position the angler for the best shots at these baby Tarpon. In addition to baby Tarpon, there is a healthy population of Snook that reside in this region too.
